West District has 5.714 square miles, located in the central zone of Taichung City, where is the location of Taichung City goverment.

It is surrounded by Liu Chuan、Mei Chuan and Ma Yuan Tou River. In this region, there are a lot of departments and schools.

In addition to seven junior high schools and ten elementary schools, it has Taiwan Taichung Nursery Center、Central Region Children's Home, Ministry of Interior、National Taichung Girl's Senior High School、National Taichung Nursing College、National Taichung Teachers College、 Taichung City Council、Taiwan Taichung District Court、National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts....and so on.

There are 25 Lis, 606 Lins, 39,896 Households in this district now, and it has a population of 116,222, including 56,432 male residents and 59,790 female residents till Nov.2004.
